Buying a scale might seem like a simple task, but there's more to it than meets the eye. Scales are used across a wide range of food-related industries, each with its own specific needs. We break them down into three main categories: food prep scales, trade scales, and shipping scales.

Food prep scales include the classic portion control scales. These are available in both digital and analog models. Digital scales are ideal for speed and accuracy, making them a go-to in fast-paced kitchens. Analog scales, while a bit slower to stabilize, are lightweight, battery-free, and ready to use anytime. Within this category, you'll also find specialty models like baker’s scales and pizza scales, which are tailored to specific industry needs.

Trade scales include counting scales, hanging scales, and hook scales. While all our scales are legal to use, not all are legal for trade. A scale must be certified by a governing body, such as Measurements Canada, to be considered legal for trade. If you’re using a scale to sell items priced by weight — like selling lobster by the pound — it must be certified. If you’re only measuring ingredients internally, certification isn’t required.
